CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 20th season of Jack in the Box Summer Shootout Series is back at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The series kicks-off with two nights of fender-bending school bus racing. Fans can enjoy the action as seven Cabarrus County principals will race 13-ton school buses on the front stretch of the speedway.
Chuck Borders, principal at Pitts School Road Elementary School, has won two principal school bus races. He expects to race his way to the front of the field again this year. "I've raced four times and won twice. Basically, the main things are stay to the inside, know how to counter steer when you get hit and when you do hit someone, don't let off the gas."
This morning on Larry's Look, Adam Auerbach joined us in the studio. He's the principal at Wolf Meadow Elementary and is back for his third time. Adam was joined by his eight and half month old son, Alec---who stole the show today. Little Alec is "in charge of the pit crew"!
The principals will not only race tonight but will return for a grudge match on Tuesday during Round Two. This year's schedule features back-to-back nights of racing on Monday and Tuesday both the first week of the series and the last week, resulting in 10 nights of racing over eight weeks. The remaining weeks will feature racing on Tuesday nights.
