MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Mooresville Ice Cream Company Cream and Deluxe Ice Cream, has been making premium ice cream since 1924.
They have authentic, old-fashion ice cream parlor next to the original creamery in downtown Mooresville. There are known for their Deluxe Ice Cream and the newer brand, Front Porch Carolina Churned Ice Cream.
The Second Annual Front Porch New Flavor Competition kicked-off recently in partnership with Johnson & Wales University, Charlotte Campus. It was all to find the next Southern-inspired recipe for their ice cream brand.
The competition was open exclusively to JWU students. Of the 53 submitted recipes, ten finalists were selected to create their ice cream recipes.
The official judging was held last Friday on the campus. Each of the 10 finalists received a $100 gift card. The Grand Prize winner was given $1,000. The Runner-Up received $500, plu $100 for the People’s Choice award.
This morning on Larry’s Look we met the winner and runner-up. They were in our studio kitchen to talk about the event and how much fun it was!
The winning ice cream was created by Marti Kelley---“Southern Coffee Explosion”. Deanna Tutrani was runner-up with “Crazy Carrot Cake”. They were joined by the CEO and co-owner of Mooresville Ice Cream Company, Babi Alarcon.
