It’s a fascinating subject, but one that’s not discussed that often. What actually happens after you press the handle and flush? That was the subject of Larry’s Look this morning on NBC Charlotte Today.

The largest waste treatment plant in the Carolinas is the McAlpine Creek facility, near Pineville, N.C.
It has a daily treatment capacity of 64 million gallons.  This plant is one of five that operates in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Larry and photographer John Grey spent  a day exploring the facility to learn the whole process.  The McAlpine Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant covers over 150 acres and has all the sophisticated equipment to sample, measure, and test the wastewater to ensure its safety.
