CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Thursday was Guinness World Record Day for 2009. It's a day to celebrate the milestones and records of the last year, and a day where many people try to break new world records.

And on this World Record Day, NewsChannel 36 took a look at some of the records from the Carolinas. We searched and found a wide range of records -- some requiring talent and others that are simply crazy and obscure.

Among the findings:

--The world's biggest cookie made in Hendersonville in 2003. It was made from 30,000 eggs, 6,500 pounds of butter and 6,000 pounds of chocolate. When it was finished, the cookie was 102 feet in diameter.

--The world's largest skinny dipping party earlier this year on Ocean Isle Beach -- 249 people showed up.

--The world's longest Riverdance line in Charlotte this year. About 400 dancers took part.

We also found records that require lots of talent and hard work. For example, the Rock Hill Drum Line recently drum-rolled for 27 hours straight. The band is still waiting on official word from Guinness, but if confirmed, 27 hours would be the new world record for the longest drum roll ever.

Just weeks ago, Candy and Potter from 107.9 the LINK invited a big group together, trying to set the record for the world's biggest "Thriller" zombie dance on skates. They, too, are still waiting on word from the folks at Guinness.

We asked Potter why so many people are going for records these days.  His answer, "We all want attention. Sites like Twitter and Facebook and YouTube give people a chance to broadcast their lives to the world. And people crave it."

No doubt, we all want attention. In fact, the NewsChannel 36 morning show is going for a record of our own: most Halloween costumes ever on a local TV morning show. We're submitting the record to the Universal Records Database. We'll let you know soon whether we've taken our place in the record books.
