CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Salvation Army is in desperate need of nonperishable food items. The shelves in three food pantries are bare.

Salvation Army spokesperson Shelley Spillios said, "It is just the need in those communities.  People are really struggling."

The pantries are located in the Belmont neighborhood, Marsh Road and on Julia Street near Statesville Avenue.

To help fill the shelves, they are collecting nonperishable food items at the Salvation Army Christmas Center at 801 E. Arrowood Road.

For more information, call their Christmas Center line at 704-716-ANGEL.
