CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There are so many ways to help children this time of year, and there are so many organizations that need your help to make sure the holidays are special for children in need.

A Child's Place is a Charlotte-based organization that serves about 3,000 homeless children in our area.

The holidays create a huge hardship on families for many reasons, but food can be a major strain. Many of these kids are given two meals a day in school. When they're on winter break, the kids may simply go without food. A Child's Place works to make sure the children are fed over the holidays.

"At the holidays when they're trying to do so much for their families, it is really difficult so it's really heartwarming for the community to help so the families don't have that pressure and the children don't worry about having something to eat," said Laurie Schwarz with A Child's Place.

There are ways you can help to make it easier on these families.

They still need volunteers to sponsor a family for the holidays. Sponsorship includes a holiday meal, plus an article of clothing and a wish list item for each sponsored family member.

The deadline to sponsor a family is Dec. 4. They also need volunteers to sort and deliver groceries to families. For more information on how you can help click here.
