CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- If you’re unemployed or underemployed and looking for seasonal work to help bridge the gap, you could be in luck this holiday season.
Careerbuilder.com recently put out a list of national companies hiring for holiday help. And unlike some lists I’ve seen before, these companies actually have openings here in the Carolinas. I scoured their web sites to give you a better idea of the positions available. Good luck and here’s to making you a jolly “employed” elf.
1) Macy’s: Macy’s is hiring more than a 1000 seasonal employees and some of those are in the Charlotte region. I found openings at South Park, Carolina Place and Northlake Malls. The jobs range from positions in cosmetics to seasonal sales associates. Check the career section at www.macys.com.
2) Radio Shack: The Shack is adding 1000 employees nationwide. A quick search found retail sales associate positions available in both North and South Carolina.
3) UPS: If you have experience in shipping and distribution, check out www.ups.com. I found part-time package handler openings in Gastonia, Salisbury and Shelby.
4) AT&T: The telecom giant has both part-time and full-time openings in Charlotte, Mooresville and Kannapolis. Check out www.att.com to find out where.
5) hhgregg: The appliance and electronics retailer is hiring more than 800 seasonal associates across the country. Locally, the stores in Pineville, Gastonia and Mooresville are advertising open positions they’re trying to fill right now. In Mooresville, there are five openings. Gastonia has three.
6) Olan Mills Studio: Everyone loves a good holiday family photo. Olan Mills Portrait Studio is hiring sales associates to help with increased demand. The company’s website, www.olanmills.com, shows openings in Pineville, Concord, Hickory, Statesville, Conover and Morganton in North Carolina and in Rock Hill and Lancaster in South Carolina.
7) Toys “R” Us: The toy retailer is hiring a whopping 35,000 seasonal associates. Yes, 35,000. The jobs range from management positions to sales associates and shelf stockers. The stores in Pineville and Concord both list nine openings. Check out www.toysrus.com to find more.
