Dave Wagner

Anchor

Dave Wagner anchors the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts at NBC Charlotte and is host and producer of the weekly political affairs program, "Flashpoint."

Dave's field anchoring and in-depth reporting have garnered 33 Emmys and four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. His stories have taken him from the 2012 Democratic and Republican National Conventions to the earthquake in Haiti and hurricanes Katrina, Andrew and Hugo.

In 2012, Dave traveled to the summer Olympics in London to bring home the stories of Carolina athletes. He also worked as a correspondent for NBC News Channel bringing the games to NBC television stations nationwide. In February, he will continue that role for NBC during the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Dave enjoys the hunt for a great story. His investigation of military recruiters lying to high school students resulted in nationwide changes at military recruiting stations. While working for WTSP-TV in Tampa, Dave followed Nazi war criminals who fled the U.S. to Eastern Europe, but continued collecting Social Security checks. His investigation resulted in Congress introducing the Nazi Benefits Termination Act. Dave's investigation of a headline-grabbing murder and rape prompted the prison release of a wrongly accused father of four and praise from the Innocence Project.

One of Dave's more memorable stories came a week after his honeymoon when he spent a month behind bars, posing as an inmate, investigating conditions at the Fayette County, Kentucky detention center.

Dave's passion for storytelling extends beyond the newsroom. He produced and directed a documentary for Discovery about the world's only identical twin savant sisters. The documentary, "Flo and Kay," was distributed worldwide.

And yes, that’s him in those films you see on Netflix and cable television. You can catch Dave in two movies, "From the Earth to the Moon" with Tom Hanks, and "The Waterboy" with Adam Sandler. Of both experiences, Dave says, "I've come to the conclusion that I shouldn't quit my day job."

Dave and his wife have two sons and love living in Charlotte. He welcomes your comments and story ideas.
