CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Right in the middle of uptown Charlotte is a brand new five acre public park.

Romare Bearden Park is named for the Charlotte born artist.  It features: two gardens, a courtyard of dining tables with chairs on a bed of crushed granite, a formal event green field,  and several waterfalls.

Two of Bearden’s collages are reflected in gardens with more than 10,000 plants.

There’s also two large lawns, white granite boulders brought in from Mount Airy, and a kids’ play area with waterfalls and poles that create clouds of mist, plus squares you can dance on to create music.

This morning on Larry’s Look, we got a close-up look at the new park.  Lee Jones, from Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation,  gave us the tour and talked about the importance of Romare Bearden’s legacy.
