CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras provides training for young musicians in a professional symphony atmosphere.

There are 185 musicians from over 60 schools across the Charlotte area involved in the youth orchestras program. This year nearly 300 students auditioned for seats in one of the two youth orchestras. Each group rehearses weekly and one rehearsal a month is devoted to coaching sessions provided by members of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.

The Symphony Guild of Charlotte's third annual Festival of Trees holiday fundraiser is going on now through December 8th. Proceeds benefit the Charlotte Symphony (CSO), Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras (CSYO and JYO), and youth music education.

While the trees are on display at SouthPark Mall, members of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras will perform holiday music at select times to entertain the shopper. The trees will relocate to Blumenthal Performing Arts Center from December 5th-8th, and be on display for bidding prior to  the Charlotte Symphony's SPX Magic of Christmas.

This morning on Larry's Look, we got a close-up look a some of the custom-designed trees. Sallie Moody, president of the Symphony Guild of Charlotte, joined us to talk about the Festival of Trees and how important it is the the success of the CYSO.
