CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jazz Arts Initiative is an organization here in Charlotte that is dedicated to the promotion, education, preservation of jazz and related art forms.

The organization's members includes jazz fans, educators, performing jazz artists, business leaders, and volunteers.

The mission of JAI focuses on Jazz Education, Performance, and Musician Support. These three elements were established to help nurture a future audience and preserve the tradition of jazz, a real American art form.

They are sponsoring a very special holiday show - The Music of Vince Guaraldi. It's Tuesday night from 6:30–9:00PM at the Blumenthal Booth Playhouse (at Founders Hall). The show is part of JAI’s acclaimed monthly series—The Jazz Room @ The Stage Door Theater and includes a catered pre-reception and a silent auction from 5:30-6:30PM to support the JAI Jazz Academy and Performance-based programs.

Five of Charlotte’s top jazz pianists—Chad Lawson, Mark Stallings, Lovell Bradford, Bill Hanna, and Charles Craig— along with an ensemble of regional musicians and vocalists, will be playing the music of the legendary composer and many other holiday classics.

JAI's President and Executive Director, Lonnie Davis, was our special guest on Larry's Look this morning. She talked about the importance of the preservation of jazz and how responsive the Charlotte area has been. Also, three jazz musicians performed some selections from the holiday show. Chad Lawson was on keyboards, Tim Singh on bass, and Ryan Saranich played tenor sax.
