Fort Mill, S.C. -- Did you know that the hottest pepper in the world is grown in Fort Mill?

The Guinness Book of World Records has declared the Carolina Reaper as the new heat champ.

Ed Currie of the Pucker Butt Pepper Company spent more than four years developing this super-hot pepper!

Ed was featured this morning on Larry's Look.  He calls himself, the Mad Scientist and enjoys every minute of his passion for creating all kinds of hot pepper products.

Ed gave us a tour of the hot house(no pun intended!) where the Reaper is grown. He also took us inside the kitchen, where hot sauces are created and made.

The Scoville Scale is used to measure the "heat" of hot peppers.

This award-winning pepper averaged just shy of 1.6 million Scoville Heat Units on average for a batch and a single pepper can have as much as at 2.2 million.

To put that in perspective, a standard jalapeno pepper registers around 5,000 on the Scoville scale.
