CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Monday morning on Larry’s Look, the Russian-speaking population in the Charlotte area was our topic.

There are around 30,000 Russian-speaking people across the area.  Many are from Russia and others from the Ukraine, Belarus, and other former Russian states.

The New Year has always been one of the greatest childhood memories for anyone raised in in a Russian culture.

It’s considered the largest holiday of the year. Religious holidays could not be celebrated during the Soviet times, and therefore the New Year holiday has combined the spirit of Christmas with the joy of New Years.

On our segment today, we got a special look at the event that was held in here in Charlotte. Hundreds were there for the celebration, that is really aimed at children.

“Father Frost” was there to hand-out gifts to all the kids, along with his helper---the Snow Maiden.
