MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Right in the middle of the town of Matthews, North Carolina is one of the oldest hardware stores in the southeast.
Thomas Jefferson Renfrow opened Renfrow General in 1900 and the business is still there---now known as Renfrow Hardware.
They have some of the most unique products around including year round plants, seeds, fertilizer, farming and garden supplies, 1000 varieties of key blanks---the list is endless!
This morning on Larry’s Look, we got a close-up look at this historical spot. David Blackley was a family friend and bought the store in 1984.
He kept all the traditional things and added more to make it a very popular hardware store, with lots of loyal clients. The classic pot-belly stove is still right there in the mid of the store, always ready with a pan of roasted peanuts.
As they’ve always said-Renfrow is more than a hardware store, it’s a page out of a history book. Stop by and listen to the floor creek as you walk from one room to the next.
Lose yourself looking at nuts and bolts, crickets and baby chicks. Pop the top off a cold soda and relax.
