The last batch of slaw and hush puppies has been served on Fred Smith's 100-county barbecue tour.
The Republican gubernatorial candidate finished the tour Tuesday night in Elizabeth City, meaning he has held campaign rallies featuring free barbecue in every North Carolina county. The state senator from Clayton began the tour last year.
Smith's wife, Ginny, said the campaign had a cake to commemorate the tour's completion.
The campaign now plans a series of rallies with country singer Lee Greenwood over the next month. Greenwood is best known for the song "God Bless the U.S.A."
Smith is one of five candidates seeking the GOP nomination in the May 6 primary.
