The man who has led the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras for 12 years is now heading up two other museums in North Carolina.
Joseph Schwarzer was named director of North Carolina Maritime Museums by the state Department of Cultural Resources. In his new role, he also will supervise the North Carolina Maritime Museums in Beaufort and Southport.
The Graveyard museum became part of the state Department of Cultural Resources in 2007.
Museum of History Director Ken Howard says Schwarzer's skills include museum management and exhibit design.
David Nateman is the former Maritime Museum director. He's now curator for special projects for the Division of State History Museums, focusing on educational and long-range exhibit development for the Queen Anne's Revenge project and the Graveyard museum.
