NC guv candidates don't like third-party ads

09/10/2008

Associated Press

Beverly Perdue and Pat McCrory didn't have much nice to say about third-party ads that are being run in the gubernatorial campaign.

The two candidates spoke at a televised debate Tuesday night about the commercials being run by outside groups. The Democratic Governors Association and the Republican Governors Association are behind respective ads.

A Republican association ad says that Perdue would support the status quo if she's elected governor. Perdue said she's opposed the status quo all her life, particularly by winning elected office as a woman.

McCrory said an ad by the Democratic-backed Alliance for North Carolina is only one-third right and calls the Republican ad "silly."

The two candidates said they would prefer the ads stop running. But they are barred from communicating with them.
