The North Carolina agency that has managed public housing in Atlantic Beach is offering its services to the town.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that David Meachem of the Statesville, N.C., Housing Authority offered Wednesday to suggest a new town manager and a financing plan for financially plagued Atlantic Beach.
Only one member of the town council attended the meeting.
Atlantic Beach's council earlier this year rejected a plan suggested by interim town manager Charles Williams, who was sent by the Municipal Association of South Carolina.
Meachem suggested hiring Willie Beatty, who's led the Statesville Housing Authority board for 18 years. Meachem said Atlantic Beach could seek a tax-anticipation loan to consolidate debts, using the Statesville agency's credibility.
