Court records show a Charlotte man is accused of breaking into research labs at North Carolina State University and stealing scientific equipment.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that 28-year-old Sean Marlon Smith is charged with two felony counts of larceny and four felony counts of breaking and entering. The charged are contained in warrants filed Tuesday afternoon at the Wake County Magistrate's Office.
Court records show indicate campus police accused Smith of taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment on June 27 last year. A police spokesman said investigators obtained warrants for Smith's arrest last year on July 13, but delayed arrest while further investigating the case with local and federal officials.
A sheriff's deputy said Smith was released from the Wake County jail after posting $100,000 bail. The deputy did not know whether he had retained an attorney, and a telephone number and address could not be found for Smith.
