Officials in one city want to lend North Carolina about $30 million to help the completion of an urban loop highway.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported Wednesday that the City Council agreed to discuss the idea this week in a meeting with Transportation Department officials.
City Councilman Robbie Perkins said making the loan would show the city is committed to the project.
The state road building schedule calls for the loop to be extended five miles from U.S. 70 in eastern Greensboro to U.S. 29 northeast of the city. The state plans to buy $15 million in right of way over two years and start construction on the $87 million project in 2012.
Several years ago, the city loaned the state money to complete other road improvements.
