Spartanburg,  S.C. - The Carolina Panthers are used to playing on big stages and in front of sell out crowds, but practicing in front of Hall of Famers?

The Panthers had a special visitor for Monday morning's practice. The 14 time NBA All- Star Jerry West was a guest of team owner Jerry Richardson. The two met a couple of years ago and have remained close.

"I told him even though you've been in this business a long time the hardest thing to do is win," West said. "I know he's worked his fanny off to bring in the best players and build the best facilities."

West, one of the NBA's 50 greatest players, also praised Richardson for how he treats his players.

"The way he cares about players is special. At the end of the day, the one thing players remember is how they were treated by management and he's a true gentleman and a pleasure to be around."

West is best known for his playing days with the Lakers. His silhouette is featured on the NBA logo.
