Where has the time gone? It’s not that I don’t feel ready but last week life jumped up and put up a fight for my time and focus. It was a great week of work, and a very bush week of work at the Quail Hollow Championship. While there was plenty of walking involved in my work duties the media folks over there go out of their way to feed us well so let’s just say the walking and carrying equipment around just about evened out.
I was able to get 4 decent training sessions into a 65 hour work week. On Monday I was able to ride and run. Thursday I ran 4 miles after work. Friday I got a short 12 miles in on the bike as the sun was setting and Saturday I was able to get a good 25 miles in on the bike with my buddy Justin. I can tell I’m getting stronger because these weeks at the golf tournament use to really beat me down and I was dead tired by the time we got to Sunday. This time around the work was still hard and I was still tired but I had the energy to get some training in and felt good while I was training.
I have a new high tech heart rate monitor thanks to the good people at Timex. I’m still trying to figure out how to sync it to my computer to upload my work out data. Setting up the watch itself was much easier than my old monitor and the watch itself has so many more functions and capabilities and the display is much easier to read. I have not had time to sit down yet and set up my program on training peaks that my tri coach Ron set me up on, but the watch data can be uploaded there, along with a training schedule, I can track my diet, set goals and a lot more things that I have yet to discover. I pulled up the program last night for the first time and I could see flashes of potential for reaching new levels simply by being better informed on calories going in, the exact amount of work I am putting in and how it all works together. I’m fully excited for the summer of training.
But first things first, Jetton Park this Saturday at 8am. I’m heading out now to bike up to the pool and get my swim on before peddling more miles and then finishing off today with a run. Today looks like my best day for a heavy day this week. I plan to keep on working through Friday, but my work outs on Thursday and Friday will be shorter and more about getting my heart rate up rather than pounding my muscles. I have a few more questions I need to talk over with my coach about the open water swim, getting in and out a wetsuit fast being one of them. In my first race I was most disappointed with my transition time from the swim to the bike and I really want to improve on that this time.
Time to go get it! I’ll let you know how the race goes! Ira
