CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The CIAA social scene officially kicked off Thursday night.
The tournament brings about 10,000 people to Charlotte, creating roughly $50 million worth of economic impact in just a matter of days.
Much of that money will be spent outside of Time Warner Cable Arena, where the tournament itself is being played.
"It's music I like to hear, people I like to see. It's fun," said Zipora Tate-Williams, a North Carolina A&T alum, "You just have a good time."
Most fans admitted they made the trip to Charlotte to experience the high-dollar entry fee, celebrity hosted parties that take place almost 24 hours a day.
Other people said they stick to family friendly, and inexpensive or free, events like the Fan Experience. The Greeks vs Greeks Step Show is also expected to be well attended.
The CIAA Tournament has been held in Charlotte for the past nine years. A decision has not been made on where the 2015 tournament will take place.
