CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Cam Newton is still one of Charlotte’s most eligible bachelors, but thanks to his help Tuesday morning, one local military man is off the market.

Newton surprised one lucky couple and helped a man serving in the Air Force propose to his Charlotte girlfriend live on the radio.  Newton appeared on KISS 95.1 with hosts Drex & Maney and helped the Panthers fan pop the question to his girlfriend Kim over the phone.

The best part? Neither Brian nor Kim knew that Newton was waiting for them on the phone.

“I can’t wait any longer,” Brian said to the station’s hosts when asked about his love for Kim.

Then Brian found out Cam was listening in.

“Cam, really?” Brian said.  “This is amazing!”

After Newton helped set up a plan to help Brian pop the question, Kim joined the conversation and quickly found out Cam was listening in, too.

“Wait, what? No, shut up,” she said.  “What is this?  This is so cool!”

“You think this is cool?  I think this is even cooler,” Newton said.  “I think Brian has a question that he wants to ask you.”

Then Brian asked Kim—with Newton listening in—to marry him.

Kim’s first words?

“Oh my gosh!  I can’t believe it’s Cam Newton (on the phone),” screamed Kim.

Then, seconds later, she said yes.

Brian is in New Mexico and will return from duty in a couple of months.

“Brian, I appreciate your service to the country.  You and all your fellow peers,” Newton said before signing off.  “Congratulations and good luck to you and Kim.”

The help from the Panthers’ franchise player was incredible, Brian said.

“I’m at a loss here.  This is awesome,” Brian said.

Cam on Campus

During the interview, Newton touched on his work in Charlotte this week with his Cam Newton Foundation at local schools.

He also talked about what it’s like to be back at Auburn University this off season to work toward his college degree.

“It’s baffling just to hear.  I pinch myself every time I’m on campus, but it’s a reality that I’m hoping that comes true for me, to walk across that stage and get that degree.”

Newton is taking classes toward a sociology degree. Number one led the Tigers to the 2010 national championship in his lone season after transferring from junior college.  He was then the NFL's No. 1 overall draft pick and went on to earn Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Newton posted similar numbers last season, but came on especially strong in the final six games. He completed 66 percent of his passes for 1,474 yards with 10 touchdowns and only two interceptions and ran for 347 yards and four scores during that span.
