CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Mustang 50th anniversary celebration starts tomorrow but NBC Charlotte’s Chris Clark couldn’t wait to see the cars. RK Motors gave us a sneak peak at a few of the cars they are bringing to CMS… and they are sweet.
Starting with the 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby Mustang GT500KR. This Shelby is a first class show piece that can anchor any serious muscle car collection or hedge any major investment portfolio. Fully documented, featuring a numbers-matching drive train and occupying a spot on the official SAAC Registry, this GT500KR is an excellent example of one of the finest muscle cars ever produced.
It’s followed up by this 1970 Ford SCCA 302 Mustang. It’s not hard to see why most consider 1968-1972 to be the Golden Age of the Trans Am series. Never since have automotive production and motor sports been so closely linked. This 1970 Mustang Boss 302 is a byproduct of that relationship. Commissioned by Ford and built by Kar Kraft to help buyers better understand how to modify their own Boss 302’s for SCCA competition, it was the test mule and picture car for the seminal “Boss 302 Chassis Modification” and “Boss 302 Engine Modification for Strip and Track” manuals. Heavily documented and registered with the Historic Trans Am Registry, this is substantial addition to any racing aficionado’s collection.
Right behind it is the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302. Combining a high performance mod motor with a track-tuned suspension, this bright orange pony is the first second generation Boss ever produced. It is literally Boss 302 #001.
One you can only see at RK Motors however is the 1970 King Cobra. One of just two factory prototypes built at the height of the NASCAR "Aero Wars", the car features an experimental front end reshaped to compete with the Chrysler wing cars. Formerly owned by NASCAR car owner Bud Moore, the Torino has been through a number of color changes but, thanks to a comprehensive restoration, has been returned to its original Vermillion hue accented by unique black stripes. The body presents well all around and is sure to grab the attention of any Ford fan within a 25-mile radius.
