CONCORD, N.C. -- The officials at the Charlotte Motor Speedway are always thinking of the next big thing for race fans.

This year they have done it again, adding a convenience store on the track infield during major events, like the Sprint All-Star and Coca-Cola 600.

Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton who has been to just about every track around NASCAR is impressed.

“It’s a really neat deal going on at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a Kangaroo express with all kinds of things for the race fans here on the infield,” he said of the convenience store that will be open 24 hours a day.

Walking through the store Burton is impressed with the large amount of variety packed into a relatively small space.

“There are snacks of all kind of drinks, you also have some beer for the guys and the gals later in the evening, there are a bunch of soft drinks, sandwiches, and even breakfast for the kids,” he said.

This weekend Ward is taking a special interest in the Kangaroo Express brand, because they have signed onto as a sponsor for his son Jeb Burton who runs in the NASCAR Craftsmen Truck series.

Store manager Dean Warber adds that the infield location really focuses on convenience for the fans.

“Our pricing and everything is pretty much the same as it is at all our convenience stores, there is any kind of beverage you can think of, we have water, ketchup, mustard, if a customer comes in we don't have something they are looking for, we will take a note we'll get an order will have it on our next truck coming in here,” Warber said.

The store has delivery trucks that make daily trips to the track.  And yes, even in this racing paradise, where things are generally offered at a premium price they offer their signature summer special, the refillable Roo cup.

“This is the best thing that we have, it’s $6.99 for the cup and then you get 25 cent refills, even here on the infield at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and at all Kangaroo Express stores,” Warber said.

The location of the store always makes it easy for race fans to get in and out with the items they need.

“This is a neat facility to have here for the fans that camp out, they can come and get what they need to have an enjoyable weekend.”
