CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Organizers of the Wells Fargo Championship are acutely aware of the saying “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.”  That is why the Transportation Committee for the Charlotte Tournament puts its trust in three very experienced people.

Before the professional golfers and their respective entourages ever set foot on the hallowed grass of Quail Hollow, they get a smile and a big “hello” on the baggage claim level of Charlotte Douglas International Airport

Charles Cassidy, Anne Miller and Jack Driscoll are the “Dream Team” of airport greeters.    The trio has been greeting visitors during Championship week for its entire 11-year history.

One member may miss a year here or there, but the ‘team’ is one of the constants when it comes to the Quail Hollow experience.

Golfers arriving at Charlotte Douglas told NBC Charlotte that they feel spoiled, and that they haven’t been treated this nice on other tours.

Over the years the Charlie, Ann, and Jack have gotten to know not only the players, but their families too.

“We’ve seen some children grow up, and it’s a joy,” Miller said “We get to know them!”

Getting these players on their way from the airport over the years, has also taught this trio some important lessons in packing, whether it’s a suitcase, or a car.

“They can fill up that SUV or Sedan like nobody’s business,” Miller said.  She said when they find themselves with no more space, they simply ask “Give me one more minute, and I’ll get it in there!”

The time the players spend with the greeters is just a small fraction of their time spent during the week but those first few moments are a big part of this tournament’s unquestioned success over the years.

The positive feelings the golfers have about the greeters, is certainly returned.

“You’d be surprised how nice (the golfers) are,” Cassidy said, “especially after you get to know them.

The Wells Fargo Championship continues at Quail Hollow Country Club through Sunday, May 5, 2013.
