CONCORD , N.C. -- Former Busch Series champion, David Green, is all too familiar with the race track, but now he's passing down his driving skills to his son Austin.

Says David Green, "I don't think I've ever quite got the butterflies driving back in the day, but I do watching him.  But he does me proud -- and so far so good."

Says Austin Green, "I followed his footsteps, and hopefully here we'll see what happens."

The 12-year-old has been racing the Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway since he was eight.  But he was behind the wheel even before that.  His dad David had him driving go-carts at four

"He told me what lines to do, and how to drive and all that," says Austin.

Says David, "I thought if nothing else, he's going to get an early start and see if he really likes this."

And like it he has.  Last season, Austin won nine of his 10 races in route to the circuit championship at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

He certainly has the passion, one he shares with his dad.

Says Austin, "I get butterflies every time we take the green."

Says David, "It's exciting but it's also nerve-racking.  I think I work harder here on Mondays and Tuesdays than I do at my normal job but it's exciting."

David Green is also the crew chief for Austin though sometimes that can be tough.

Says David, "I don’t know if it's good to be the dad, and the crew chief, and the owner, but I'm enjoying it and its good times."
