CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina braggin' rights will be on the line at Bank of America Stadium on September 5, 2015.
Thursday morning the Charlotte Sports Foundation, in connection with representatives from UNC and South Carolina, announced that both teams will play each other on the college football gridiron in uptown Charlotte to kickoff the 2015 college football season.
South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner said, "It seems like a natural fit. Coach Spurrier was excited about the matchup. I know our fans and their fans will be excited to come to this great city to kick off the 2015 season."
North Carolina Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham added, "We have more alumni here than any place in the country other than the triangle. Being able to bring our team down to play a regular season game is something we very much look forward too."
Charlotte Sports Foundation Executive Director Will Webb says he's hoping this game will be the first of many meetings between the Tar Heels and Gamecocks at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte in the coming decades. The next meeting could come in 2019.
Each school will get 12,500 tickets for the game. The Gamecocks will be the home team by virtue of a coin toss before Thursday’s proceedings.
No game time has been announced yet.
