CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- More than 500,000 swimmers took part in the first Cullen Jones Diversity International Swim Meet this weekend.
Jones, a four-time Olympic medalist, created the fundraiser to promote swim safety and drowning prevention. Most importantly, though, he says it’s about celebrating diversity in the sport.
“We want all of these swimmers to know that they can do it in any background they have. They can be an Olympian too,” he said.
Money raised from the three day event will go to swim clubs that promote diversity and programs that emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
