SAN FRANCISCO, C.A. --  The Carolina Panthers will look for their fifth straight win Sunday, when they travel to Candlestick Park for a showdown with defending National Football Conference Champions San Francisco.

Carolina is coming off a 34-10 victory over division rival Atlanta one week ago. That victory helped the Panthers move to 2-0 in the NFC South and keep pace with New Orleans.

The 49ers are 6-2 on the season. San Francisco had last week off and the ‘Niners’ are riding a five game winning streak.

The Panthers’ week 10 opponent ranks first in the league in rushing yards and fifth in the league in points per game.

The combined record of Carolina's last four opponents is 7-27. This is an opportunity for the Panthers to make a statement against a very good football team.

"It's the next important game, we're going to focus on doing everything we can to continue to win week in and week out," Panthers Coach Ron Rivera said.

"We want to be relevant, we want to be in the conversation. Every time we turn on the TV and they are talking about playoff teams, we want to be in that conversation, but to do that, we have to win football games."

Carolina will likely be without linebacker Chase Blackburn, cornerback James Dockery, and offensive guard Chris Scott.

Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Candlestick Park.

NBC Charlotte Sports will have a complete recap on the Panthers Game Day following Sunday Night Football on NBC Charlotte.
