BELMONT, N.C. – South Point pulled away in the second half to beat Burns on Friday, as the Red Raiders rolled 51-14 to stay unbeaten on the season. The visiting Bulldogs finish their season with just two losses.
Red Raider junior Tanner Muse returned an interception for a touchdown and also ran for a touchdown in the South Point win. Muse’s first touchdown put South Point on the board 7-0. After recovering a fumble on a punt, the Raiders struck again with a Jaquan Brooks score to put South Point up 14-0.
Burns wasn’t going quietly though as Chris Montgomery threw a short touchdown pass to Scooter Colburn to get the Bulldogs on the board 14-7. But South Point always had the answer as the Red Raiders got another touchdown from Brooks to take a 21-7 lead into the half.
Muse’s second touchdown of the game put South Point up 28-7. Montgomery added a score with his legs for Burns, but the Red Raiders put up 23 unanswered after that to coast to the 51-14 win. South Point visits Concord next week in the 3A quarterfinals.
