COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Dawn Staley's happy to have the summer free to focus on what she loves best -- making the South Carolina women's basketball team better.
The Gamecocks took plenty of major steps in Staley's fourth season, including returning to the NCAA tournament for the first time in nine years. Staley says that performance has her energized to make sure bigger things are ahead.
Staley jokes the hardest part of the offseason is behind her after her acceptance speech earlier this month on making the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. The three-time gold medal winner also won't have the Olympics ahead this summer after having a prominent role in the past four summer games. Staley was an assistant coach for the U.S. team that won gold in China four years ago.
