CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Thousands of BMX racers from around the world are in Charlotte this weekend competing in the USA BMX Tarheel Nationals at the Charlotte’s Hornet's Nest track.
About half of the 48 riders from last August’s Olympic Games will compete. They’ll race alongside more than a thousand amateurs from 35 states, ages 2 to 70.
Organizers say the economic impact of this event will bring millions of dollars to the Charlotte economy.
It comes just weeks before the Queen City will learn if Charlotte is chosen to host the Summer X Games. Many of the athletes who compete in the Summer X Games got their start on a BMX track.
If you want to check out the action, you can head to the Hornet's Nest at 6301 Beatties Ford Road. Racing kicks off Saturday and continues on Sunday.
