FORT MILL, S.C. – Take away the fourth inning on Thursday and the first place Knights would have been looking at their third-straight win. Instead, the first place Indians came to Knights Stadium on Thursday and grabbed a win after a key inning.

Indianapolis scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning, starter Jeff Locke (5-3, 3.27) allowed two runs over 5.2 innings, and the Indians took game one of the four-game series with the Charlotte Knights with a 5-3 victory from Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, SC on Thursday.

RHP Dylan Axelrod (5-4, 3.18) started for the Knights and allowed five runs on the night – all in the fourth inning. He gave up six hits, walked three and struck-out four. He was saddled with the loss.

Charlotte (39-29) out-hit the Indians on Thursday, roping 10 hits in the contest. Hector Gimenez had two of the hits, including a solo home run in the sixth inning – his ninth of the season. Jim Gallagher and Greg Golson also had two hits apiece for Charlotte – who lost for just the third time over their past 10 games.

Charlotte’s bullpen was sharp in the opener, combining to pitch four scoreless innings. Reliever Deunte Heath lowered his ERA to 1.78 on the season with two shutout frames. He fanned five batters on the night. As a team, the Knights struck-out a season-high 14 batters.

The two teams will be back on the diamond for game two on Friday. RHP Charlie Shirek will get the nod for the Knights, while the Indians will counter with RHP Daniel Cabrera. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. from Knights Stadium. Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m.
