ROCHESTER, NY – Before Wednesday’s game, the Charlotte Knights learned that their starting pitcher for the night was being promoted to the Majors. That didn’t prevent the Knights from getting the best of the Yankees however.

The first place Knights belted out a season-high 18 hits, Tyler Kuhn and Dallas McPherson each homered, and the Charlotte Knights beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 9-3 in game three of their four-game series from Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. The win was Charlotte’s 56th overall on the season.

With LHP Pedro Hernandez being recalled to Chicago earlier in the day, RHP Scott Carroll was summoned to make his first start of the season. Carroll allowed three runs on one hit over two innings and did not factor in the decision. It was just his second appearance of the season for the Knights.

RHP Brandon Kloess (2-0, 1.93) came on in the third inning and was stellar over four innings. He allowed just two hits over four scoreless innings to earn his second win of the season with Charlotte. Jhan Carlos Marinez, who was optioned back to the Knights from the White Sox on Tuesday, tossed two scoreless innings and Deunte Heath pitched a solid ninth to close out the game.

Kuhn finished the night 3-6 with the home run, two runs scored and an RBI. Kuhn now has four homers on the season and is hitting a crisp .280. McPherson went 3-4 with the home run and a season-high four RBIs. He now has a home run in three of his last four games. Drew Garcia and Jeff Baisley also chipped in with three hits apiece.

The two teams will conclude their series on Thursday at 12:05 p.m. RHP Matt Zaleski will toe the rubber for the Knights. The Yankees will send LHP Mike O’Connor to the hill.
