Knights drop finale to Yankees 2-0 on Thursday

ROCHESTER, NY – Mike O’Connor and D.J. Mitchell combined to shutout the Charlotte Knights on Thursday, as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees beat the Knights 2-0 in the finale of their four-game series from Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. The two teams finished the series with a four-game split.

O’Connor started for the Yankees and struck-out five batters over four scoreless innings. Making just his sixth start of the season, the Texas native gave up just three hits and did not walk a batter.

D.J. Mitchell (6-4, 5.04) came on in relief of O’Connor in the fifth inning and gave up just four hits in five innings. Mitchell did not allow a run and struck-out five batters en route to his sixth win of the season.

Charlotte starter Matt Zaleski (3-3, 3.66) allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits over 5.2 innings and was saddled with the loss. He walked four and struck-out four.

Reliever Dan Remenowsky came on in the sixth inning and pitched the rest of the way for Charlotte. Remenowsky gave up just two hits over 2.1 shutout innings.

The Knights had seven hits on the day. Drew Garcia and Justin Greene had two hits apiece in Thursday’s loss.

The Knights will now make the trek to Buffalo, NY and begin a four-game series with the Bisons on Friday. RHP Simon Castro will take the ball for the Knights, while RHP Colin McHugh will get the nod for the Bisons in game one. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
