FORT MILL, S.C. -- Chris Dickerson hit two home runs, Ramon Ortiz earned his third-straight victory, and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees beat the Charlotte Knights 8-7 on Thursday in game three of the four-game series from Knights Stadium.
Ortiz (9-3, 3.10) allowed six runs in five innings but still came away with the victory. Dickerson went 4-6 at the plate with two runs scored, two home runs and three RBIs.
Charlotte (61-46) dropped their second game of the series to the Yankees.
RHP Simon Castro started for the Knights and allowed six runs on 11 hits over five innings. Castro, who entered the game with a 15-consecutive scoreless innings streak, allowed a run in the first inning to end the streak. RHP Anthony Carter (2-4, 4.75) allowed two runs on two hits over 1.2 innings pitched and was saddled with the loss.
Dallas McPherson and Drew Garcia each hit home runs in the loss. McPherson’s home run was his 11th of the season, while Garcia’s was his fifth of the year.
The Knights and Yankees will conclude their series from Knights Stadium on Friday. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. LHP Charlie Leesman will take the mound for the Knights and RHP Adam Warren will start for the Yankees.
