PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- The Charlotte Knights will return home on Thursday in a must-win situation.

Former Knight Zach Stewart threw six scoreless innings, Dan Butler homered, and the Pawtucket Red Sox took a commanding two-game lead with a 2-0 win over the Charlotte Knights in game two on Wednesday from McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. The best-of-five series now shifts to Knights Stadium where Charlotte will need to win all three games to win the 2012 Governors’ Cup.

Stewart (2-0) won his second game of the 2012 playoffs and allowed just four hits over six shutout innings on Wednesday. The former Chicago White Sox farmhand, who was traded to Boston as part of the Kevin Youkilis trade, stifled his former teammates.

Butler got his club on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run off Charlotte starter Charlie Shirek (0-1). Shirek, who was the original game three starter, allowed one more run along the way.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, he gave up an RBI double to Che-Hsuan Lin to make it a 2-0 ballgame.

Shirek allowed just two runs and four hits over seven innings and was charged with the loss. He struck-out six batters in all and did a solid job for the Knights.

The Knights had just four hits on Wednesday and have not scored a run since the fourth inning of game one (14 straight innings). It was the 12th time in 2012 that the Knights were shut out – second time in the playoffs.

Josh Phegley had one of Charlotte’s four hits. He has a hit in all six playoff games.

Pawtucket reliever Jose De La Torre recorded the final three outs in the ninth inning to earn his third save of the postseason.

The Charlotte Knights return home to Knights Stadium to host the PawSox in game three on Thursday. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch of Thursday's game is set for 7:15 p.m. RHP Matt Zaleski is expected to start for Charlotte, while Pawtucket will hand the ball to RHP Nelson Figueroa.

If the Knights win on Thursday, they will also host game four on Friday, September 14. If they win their next two games, game five will take place on Saturday, September 15. Both games (Friday and Saturday) are scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

2012 IL Playoff tickets are available at the Knights Ticket Office located at Knights Stadium, online at www.charlotteknights.com, or by phone at 704-357-8071 (North Carolina) or 803-548-8050 (South Carolina).
