FORT MILL, S.C. -- Ben Guez, Nick Castellanos, and Danny Dorn all homered as the Toledo Mud Hens beat the Charlotte Knights 12-4 on Wednesday in game three of the four-game series from Knights Stadium. The loss was Charlotte’s second in the series.
Toledo starter Jose Alvarez (5-3, 2.04) struck-out nine batters over five innings en route to the game three victory. Alvarez, who was making his 10th start of the season, allowed three runs on five hits.
The Mud Hens scored seven of their 10 runs off of Knights starter Zach Stewart (3-6, 4.80), who was saddled with the loss. Two of the seven runs he allowed were unearned. He walked one and fanned three.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI single off the bat of Jordan Danks, who finished the game with two hits. The RBI was the 156th of his Knights career – moving him into fourth place on the all-time Knights career RBI list. He passed Josh Fields.
Brent Morel and Brandon Short also chipped in with two hits apiece. Morel has now reached base in 24 of his last 25 games, dating back to April 30.
The two teams will conclude their series on Thursday at Knights Stadium. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. RHP Andre Rienzo gets the nod for the Knights, while the Mud Hens will send RHP Shawn Hill to the mound.
