CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Charlotte lawyer who single-handedly delayed the construction of the new BB&T Ballpark for years went back to check out the facility with NBC Charlotte Wednesday, just two days before the park's grand opening.
"It's probably a fine AAA facility, although it is compressed," said Jerry Reese.
Reese has maintained a low profile over recent years, after seven of his lawsuits to stop construction of the ballpark failed.
"I don't think people grasped the central theme of what I was trying to get across," he said.
Reese always maintained that the city should spend its resources attracting a Major League Baseball team, not building a new home for a minor league team. He's still bullish on the MLB coming to a nearby town, but not Charlotte anymore.
"I feel like when Major League Baseball comes to the Carolinas, it won't be to uptown Charlotte.
Reese said he has no regrets.
