Knights crush attendance records

Successful first year wraps up at BB&T Ballpark

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Knights lead all minor league teams in attendance for the 2014 season.

The number of people who went to BB&T Ballpark this year is three times the number of people who went to games in Fort Mill, South Carolina, last year.

Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski gives all the credit to the fans.

"They're the ones that made this happen. We set the table and they just over performed," Rajkowski said.

He then added, "It's not a credit to us, I think it's a credit to our community, and we're proud that we were able to do that."

Monday's finally was one of 31 sellouts this season, also a record.

For season ticket holder Peter Olynick, the move to uptown is the driving force behind the increased fan base.

"Being able to easily get downtown, see a lot of people that are coming from downtown just having a good time," Olynick said.

BB&T Ballpark will host one final baseball game. The AAA National Championship Game will take place on September 16. The first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
