10:04 AM EDT on Monday, June 16, 2008
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats are giving 13 unsigned veterans another shot at the NBA.
New coach Larry Brown began a two-day minicamp Friday. It serves as a tryout for the Bobcats' summer league team, which begins play next month in Las Vegas.
Former North Carolina guard Jackie Manuel, ex-Wake Forest forward Trent Strickland and Wingate alum Junior Harrington were among the players on hand Friday. Manuel and Strickland spent last season in the NBA Development League. Harrington played for a team in Russia.
Former Alabama forward Chuck Davis and ex-Kentucky guard Gerald Fitch were also at the minicamp, a first for the Bobcats.
