Bobcats to open against LeBron, Cavaliers
09:15 PM EDT on Wednesday, August 6, 2008
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Larry Brown will begin his record ninth NBA head coaching job when the Charlotte Bobcats visit LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
But Brown's hiring didn't create any more interest in the Bobcats from the league's TV partners. The schedule released Wednesday doesn't have Charlotte appearing in any nationally televised games.
The Bobcats open the season Thursday, Oct. 30 in Cleveland. It will be the Cavaliers' second game, after they open at defending champion Boston two days earlier.
The Bobcats then play eight of their next nine games at home, beginning Nov. 1 against Miami. The Bobcats host Detroit two days later, the team Brown coached to an NBA title in 2004.
The Celtics come to Charlotte on Nov. 29 and Jan. 6.
The Bobcats will also again play a matinee on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, hosting San Antonio on Jan. 19. They close the season April 15 at Orlando.
While the schedule doesn't include a stretch of 21 of 29 games on the road like last season, Charlotte will play 12 of 17 on the road beginning in late January due to arena conflicts.
Brown replaced the fired Sam Vincent after the Bobcats went 32-50 in his only season. Brown hasn't coached since being fired by the New York Knicks following the 2005-06 season.
