CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Some of you have tipped us off to a story about a bad car crash involving Carolina Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton. It comes from the website of the Global Associated News, which reports that Newton broke both legs in a car crash.

According to the site, it's a developing story. It happened about 30 minutes ago. It says an old lady in an Audi ran a red light and hit Newton s BMW. It s all attributed to a spokesperson for the Carolina highway safety authority.

It sounds really serious.

Except it's not.

It's all fake.

Fake fake fake.

But the story s still making the rounds on social media. Why?
