Charlotte's Ogunjobi enjoying combine

Charlotte's Ogunjo

INDIANAPOLIS - A Charlotte 49er was invited to the NFL Combine and that's something to smile about.

So Olumide "Larry" Ogunjobi is all smiles.

In Indianapolis as an invitee to pro football's most prestigious scouting event, Ogunjobi is aware that his opportunity to be the first 49ers player invited, and hopefully drafted is a special one.

"It's a blessing," he told reporters Saturday. "I can't thank God enough."

Ogunjobi is as unique a prospect taking part in the combine.

The defensive tackle was part of the Charlotte 49ers first football class, and has played in every 49ers football game.

"To be that person to possibly be the first draft pick, that was something I felt like I could do," he said.

The Greensboro native is also the son of Nigerian immigrants. He didn't start playing football until he was a sophomore at Ragsdale High School.

"I believed in myself to go out there and do it," he said. "And now I'm here."

Many project Ogunjobi, 6-foot-3, 305 pounds, to be drafted in rounds 3-5 of the seven-round draft.

His NFL.com profile praises his power, explosiveness and intelligence -- he's a double major at Charlotte in Computer Science and Biology.

He's smart enough to know that it doesn't matter who drafts him. Any of the 32 teams will do.

"Whoever picks up the phone and calls," he says with a smile. "I know what I want to do and how I want to do it. I think it's going to be fun. I'm all smiles."
