CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Head coach and general manager of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson says that the team has agreed to terms with forward Peter-James Corsi.
Corsi, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, hails from Montreal, Quebec and played the last four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Last season, he ranked third in team scoring with the Halifax Mooseheads scoring 31 goals, 39 assists for 70 points in 67 games and led the team in penalty minutes with 116. His scoring stats are right behind New York Rangers 2008 third round draft pick Ryan Hillier. During this past playoff year with the Mooseheads, Corsi tied for the team lead in points with eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 15 games.
Wilkinson feels that Corsi can bring a lot to the Checkers roster, “P.J. is a very hard worker who is a versatile forward. Not only does he bring skill to the team, he also has an element of grit to his game.”
The Checkers are getting ready for their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team’s 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
