ROCK HILL, SC - College basketball coaches are used to making road trips, whether it's recruiting or game day, but parents of basketball coaches?

Mike and Linda Kelsey have followed their son and Winthrop Men's Basketball Coach Pat on the hardwood since he was 4-years-old.

"We cemented the back yard when he was young," said Linda. "It's (basketball) been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember."

Those memories live on today for the Kelseys, who travel almost 500 miles one way from their home in Cincinnati to Rock Hill on game day, to watch their son Pat, who's in his second year, coach the Eagles.

"We're not gonna miss this opportunity," says Mike. "To watch our son coach basketball and not just coach but be a Division I head coach. "

Mike and Linda have been married for 44 years. They say the 8-hour car ride is an opportunity to share some quite time. Mike, who's only missed three home games all season, is anything but quite during the games.

"He sits behind the bench and I joke with him and tell him if he ever gets us a technical foul, I'm moving his seat up to Section 136  Row Z," said Pat Kelsey.

Winthrop is currently 13-10 on the season and travels to Longwood for their next ball game. It's Wednesday, February 12.
