SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Former Wake Forest and South Carolina basketball coach Dave Odom will help Southern Conference basketball keep moving forward.
The league said Wednesday Odom agreed to become the Southern Conference's special advisor for basketball strategies. Commissioner John Iamarino said Odom would assist with things like non-conference scheduling, participating in exempt tournaments, running the league tournament and institutional recruiting efforts.
Odom is continuing in his role as Maui Invitational tournament chairman.
Odom coached at Wake Forest for 12 years, reaching the NCAA tournament seven times. He moved to South Carolina in 2001 and won a pair of NIT championships. Odom also served as head coach at East Carolina and as an assistant coach for Terry Holland at Virginia.
Odom said he was happy to get the chance to enhance the league's profile.
