CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina will have to rely on Ryan Houston to move the football on the ground for the rest of the season.
The tailback ran for career-highs of 37 carries and 164 yards in the Tar Heels' win against rival Duke after the loss of starter Shaun Draughn to a shoulder injury. Draughn is now out for the season, forcing Houston out of his role as a goal-line and short-yardage back and into the lead role heading into this weekend's game against No. 12 Miami.
Coach Butch Davis says Houston will have help from Anthony Elzy, who moved from fullback back to his original position of tailback about two weeks ago.
Houston says he is ready to be the top back for the Tar Heels (6-3, 2-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who are one win from bowl eligibility.
